Clarissa Miklavec (Sheehan)

Clarissa Miklavec (Sheehan) is a passionate and experienced Optometrist who brings both clinical excellence and personal insight to her patient care.

Graduating from Flinders University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science) and Master of Optometry, she quickly established herself in regional practice, managing a wide variety of cases and building expertise in general and complex eye conditions.

Clarissa has worked alongside Associate Professor Chan, gaining invaluable experience in ophthalmology, and significantly adding to her clinical knowledge and diagnostic acumen.

In 2021, driven by both professional interest and personal experience, Clarissa completed additional training in Vision Therapy through the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists. A decision inspired by her own experience with vision therapy. This unique insight allows her to provide empathetic, effective care to children and young adults with visual processing or developmental vision issues.

In 2023, she became a CASA Accredited optometrist, meeting the strict clinical and regulatory standards required to assess and manage aviation eye health. She was also an active member of a Community of Practice and Education Group for Rural Optometrists, collaborating with peers to improve the quality and accessibility of rural eye care across Australia.

In 2025, Clarissa was proud to publish a case report in the Optometry Connection journal, contributing to the wider professional community and helping to mentor the next generation of Optometrists by supervising and guiding numerous students during their clinical placements.

Outside the Clinic
Clarissa enjoys a quieter pace of life – spending time in her garden, cooking up sourdough recipes, and adventuring outdoors with her husband and their beloved dog, Zoey. Camping and fishing are regular weekend activities, and she also enjoys solving puzzles, from challenging crosswords to hands-on DIY projects.
